Hey beautiful people! New York Fashion Week is not over and I finally got a chance to get out and hit the streets when Monroe, of Fashion Steele NYC invited me to her #SteeleVain Influencer Brunch at Maman NYC Soho hosted by herself and Vanessa Lundy of VanaVain, sponsored by Shea Moisture and HUE! My chance at fashion week redemption but, really it was just a chance to get out and vibe with inspiring brunch mates — Monroe always seems to curate the perfect collection of empowering and beautifully inspiring women of color that are making unforgettable strides in this industry. Once again, I was just grateful to have a seat at the table.
I’m a sucker for details so the custom menu with the invite illustration by Araki Koman was definitely noticed.
What a beautiful garden. What a gorgeous table and the pastries lined up down the wooden table made me really feel like I was in someone’s backyard in the middle of an Alabama farm. Just close your eyes and smell the fresh mini Nutella biegnets. Delightful, right?
Just as much as I loved my perfectly placed granola parfait with greek yogurt, granola and blueberries and strawberries. The Pescatarian in me greatly appreciated the healthy effort and it was delicious, might I add! Yum.
As beautiful as the set up was, as amazing as the pastries tasted and as much as I felt at home in Maman Soho, I was humbled to share and experience the morning with these beautiful ladies. Let me tell you. Me and my little self was sitting next to, across from and beside creatives I have followed for years, have stalked their magic, tried to emulate their greatness when I was lacking my own and some women that even though I introduced to them for the first time, the genuine connections couldn’t be denied.
We sat amongst each other and shared stories and matchas, while encouraging each other to intentionally go after our dreams. What I love about these type of events is the genuine support. We are all here for a reason; and not just the brunch. But, in this space, in this world, making it our time. We are here showing up for ourselves and inspiring others to do the same. This is what it’s about.
The fact that we are brown is just a plus. But, a huge plus. And we are celebrating what we have going on in the moment. Not waiting for that big moment to say you’re dope. We are giving each other the roses while they can smell them! I’m here for it all.
